Luke (pictured above with his fellow lifeguards) is a summer Camp Counselor and has been working at Frost Valley for the last 2 summers! His last summer was spent as Head Lifeguard and his home town is Dumfries, Scotland.
Here is a little about what he had to say about his time at Frost Valley YMCA:
What is your favorite memory from the summer?
“My job at Frost Valley this year was that of Head Lifeguard. I would spend most days with a team of around 15 lifeguards at the lake. Towards the end of the Summer, we had some off time where we could relax at the lake and socialise as a team. For me, this was the best part of my camp experience, having an amazing time with the friends I had made over the course of the Summer. It was great seeing just how far we had come as a team compared to just a few short weeks ago.”
What advice would you have for an individual looking to come to the US?
“My advice would be to research the different roles and jobs that different camps have to offer, there is such a wide variety of positions available which I had no idea about before coming to camp. So make sure you choose the right job for you! Also, try to get in contact with someone who has previously been employed in the role you are interested in and ask them how they found it and for any advice that they might have.”
Luke is looking forward to returning to Frost Valley this summer.
Yours in Camping,
Adam
